Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has released photos of the Mitsubishi Concept Global Small, ahead of the concept's debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The concept car previews Mitsubishi's new global entry-level small car that will be launched from March 2012 for a starting price around 400,000 Thai baht (RM 40K).
To be produced in Mitsubishi's third plant in Thailand, where the annual capacity stands at 150,000 units, the new small five-seater will be exported to and made available in emerging markets (India, China, Brazil and likely Malaysia) and developed markets (Japan and Europe) alike.
Based upon the three main ideas of compact, affordability and fuel efficiency, the new small car will be underpinned by an all-new platform, and will be built to comply with the Thai Eco-Car project standards, in order for Mitsubishi to enjoy special incentives offered by the Thai government.
Besides an engine sized between 1.0-litre to 1.2-litre, the new small Mitsubishi will feature a new CVT, regenerative braking, engine stop-start system and low rolling resistance tyres. Moreover, the car has been styled with aerodynamics in mind, while many parts and components have been designed to be as light as possible.
