Volkswagen Malaysia Sells Record Number Of Cars In 2010

Volkswagen Malaysia has sold a record 2810 vehicle units in 2010, a year that has also proved lucrative for fellow luxury brand BMW Malaysia. The sales growth of 217 percent, as compared with 2009's 885 units, is attributed to the launch of three new Volkswagen models—the Polo 1.2 TSI, Golf 1.4 TSI and Scirocco 1.4 TSI; strong sales of existing models led by the Passat CC; dealership network expansion in the Klang Valley, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuantan, Pahang; and improved consumer sentiment thanks to sound market conditions.

Yet another highlight from 2010 is the finalisation of an agreement between Volkswagen and DRB-Hicom that will see the local assembly of the Passat and Jetta sedans in Pekan, Pahang, towards the end of 2011. Locally-assembled Volkswagen cars will not only be sold in Malaysia, but in other ASEAN countries as well under the German automaker's Strategy 2018 plan for the future.
