The 2012 Hyundai Veloster three-door coupe, declared as Hyundai's answer to the Volkswagen Scirocco, has made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show. What stands out the most has to be the three-door and a hatch format. Hyundai says that the single door on the driver's side and two doors on the front passenger's side will remain true for left- and right-hand-drive models.
The interior is said to draw influences from the Audi TT, from the styling down to the quality of materials. Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, a 7" touch-screen LCD display, a 450-watt audio system, Bluetooth hands-free functionality, video game console connectivity and GPS navigation.
The Veloster is driven by a 140 hp, 167 Nm 1.6-litre direct-injected four-cylinder engine, which can be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or Hyundai's first in-house developed six-speed twin-clutch transmission. The latter offers an Active Eco mode that alters gear-shift points and controls engine revs to improve fuel economy.
