Lamborghini Singapore Receives More Than 50 Orders For RM3.6mil LP700-4

Never mind that Lamborghini has yet to finalise the name of the Murcielago replacement, tentatively called LP700-4, or that it will only be unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. Such is the charm of the new SGD 1.5 million (RM 3.6 million) LP700-4 that Lamborghini Singapore has secured more than 50 orders after a single-day private preview of a pre-production LP700-4 unit in Singapore last month.

Head of Lamborghini Singapore, Melvin Goh revealed to AsiaOne that Singapore had the privilege of previewing the LP700-4 before Hong Kong, China and Japan. While he declined to reveal the exact number of orders, which AsiaOne understood to be more than 50, Goh said that the Lamborghini brand has become “more trusted now” in Singapore, especially in the last five years.

More than the looks that won the 50 plus customers over should be the LP700-4's specifications, which were recently leaked to the public domain. The mid-engined, 1575 kg LP700-4 is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 churning out 700 hp at 8250 rpm and 690 Nm at 5500 rpm. 0-100 km/h is over in 2.9 seconds and top speed stands at 350 km/h, thanks to the use of a Haldex 4WD system and Lamborghini's new seven-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) automated manual gearbox which requires just 50 milliseconds to execute a gear-change.

The 50 plus orders, the first of which will arrive in June 2011, are the rule rather than the exception in Singapore, as it seems from the number of supercars sold on this tiny island. For the first 11 months of 2010, Lamborghini Singapore sold 49 supercars, consisting of Gallardo, Murcielago and limited-edition Reventon models, while 32 Aston Martins, 47 Bentleys and 59 Ferraris were also snapped up.
