Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel Becomes Youngest-Ever F1 World Champion

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel is the new 2010 Formula One world champion after winning the decisive Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This is his fifth win of the season, which is enough for the 23-year-old Vettel to become the youngest-ever F1 world champion.

“I'm speechless. I don't know what you are supposed to say in these moments”, an excited Vettel said to the press after the race. “It has been an incredibly tough season for myself and all of us—physically and mentally especially”.

“We always kept believing in ourselves—no matter what people said—in the team and in our car”, Vettel added. “We only led this championship once this season, but it was when it mattered”.

The McLaren duo, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, put in an impressive performance to finish second and third, earning the British team second placing in the constructors' championship ahead of Ferrari. Red Bull secured the team world title last week in Brazil.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull's Mark Webber, Vettel's two main rivals, only managed seventh and eighth boiling down to tactical decisions to pit early for new tyres. Both were left stuck behind Nico Rosberg's Mercedes and two Renaults.

Alonso, who led the drivers' standings before the race and needed a fourth placing to win his third world title, was disappointed but refused to point the finger at his team. “After the race, it is always very easy to see the best strategy”, he said. “But this is a sport. This is motor racing. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose”.
