Renault Megane Renault Sport 250 Cup Launched In Malaysia

TC Euro Cars, the official distributor of Renault cars in Malaysia, has launched the Megane Renault Sport 250 Cup, the successor to the Megane R26 still sold in Malaysia. Covered by a three-year warranty, the Megane RS is priced at RM 229,800 (OTR without insurance), a relative bargain compared with the Volkswagen Scirocco.

Painted in bright yellow (white & grey are options), equipped only with a manual gearbox, and fitted with Recaro front seats and metal sports pedals, the Megane RS is quite clearly a car catered for true driving enthusiasts who would consider the track a second home and yet still need the space and comfort for everyday driving.

Adapted from the standard Megane, the Megane RS's chassis has been lowered by 10 mm and gets a stiffer, uprated suspension setup, stronger Brembo brakes, Limited Slip Differential and 235/40 R18 Michelin tyres. The RS Performance Hub allows for an independent steering front axis without torque steer. A three-mode (On, Sport, Off) ESP gives the driver the option to run wild. The RS Monitor, a central dashboard display, provides vital on-track information such as acceleration/lap times, G-force levels and real-time engine data.

Powering this hot hatch is a 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 250 hp at 5500 rpm and 340 Nm at 3000 rpm. Eighty percent of the maximum torque is available at just 1900 rpm. With the generated power driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, the Megane RS hits the century mark from rest in 6.1 seconds, before topping out at 250 km/h. Fuel economy is rated at 11.9 km/litre.

The Megane RS has all the modern luxuries as well, including automatic bi-xenon headlamps, automatic wipers, keyless entry and start, dual-zone automatic climate control, steering wheel-mounted controls, audio system with iPod/USB-compatibility and Bluetooth-connectivity. Safety features include six airbags, stability and traction control and a full-marks, five-star Euro NCAP rating. A RM 10,000 GT Pack, consisting of a panoramic glass roof and leather seats, is optional.
