Land Rover Malaysia has launched the new Land Rover Defender 110 Double Cab pick-up for RM 148,888 (on-the-road without insurance) in Peninsular Malaysia and RM 152,388 in East Malaysia, where, the company says, the Defender is well-received due to the rugged terrain.
Locally-assembled in Inokom's plant in Kulim, Kedah, the five-seater Defender, which enjoys a legendary status in the U.K. at least, now comes with 16" alloy wheels, front power windows, reverse sensors and leather seats. The interior still adopts the no-nonsense, ultra-utilitarian approach of the exterior, offering a basic dash architecture and materials designed to “withstand extreme weather conditions”.
Power is derived from a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine capable of churning out 122 hp at 3500 rpm and 360 Nm at just 2000 rpm. Naturally, the generated output goes to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Low-range gearing and locking centre differential are standard features as expected.
