2011 Mitsubishi ASX Officially Launched In Malaysia

The 2011 Mitsubishi ASX has been officially launched in Malaysia for RM 136,208.10 (on-the-road without insurance). Fully imported from Japan, where it was launched back in February, the ASX (Active Smart X-over) is designed to offer the practicality and elevated seating position of an SUV along with the ride comfort and handling of a sedan—all in a “Smart Size” package smaller than conventional mid-size SUVs such as Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson.

The ASX shares not only the same platform as the Lancer, but the same powertrain as well: the 2.0-litre 4B11 engine mated to the INVECS-III CVT with six-step Sports mode, which can be engaged via magnesium steering paddles. Tuned for use in an SUV, the engine produces 150 hp and 197 Nm compared with 155 hp and 199 Nm in the Lancer. The front-wheel-driven ASX comes with hydraulic-assisted steering plus MacPherson strut/multi-link (front/rear) suspension setup for improved handling.

Standard equipments are generous, including 18" alloy wheels, leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control buttons, leather-wrapped gearshift knob, full-colour LCD multi-information display, automatic air-conditioner, reverse camera, keyless entry system, 6-speaker 2-DIN LCD touch-screen audio system with USB port.

Safety features include dual front airbags, driver's knee airbag, front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), Active Stability Control (ASC) and Hill Start Assist system.

Open for booking since October, the 2011 ASX is offered with a choice of five colours, a three-year/100,000km warranty and a two-year free maintenance package. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, which launched the Pajero and Lancer Sportback not too long ago, is targeting to sell 100 units of the ASX monthly.
