Meet Atnmbl — The Car of the Future

From the people who designed the Google Phone, we may also eventually get the Atnmbl (Autonomobile). Of course, the concept is radical and nothing on the market today even comes close in terms of looks and functionality. Mike and Maaike design firm has the vision to create a vehicle that drives itself, with nothing of the steering wheel, brake pedal and stuff expected of a normal car. Atnmbl will navigate itself using GPS and radar technology, and will be electrically powered without letting solar energy go to waste.
Seven passengers can be seated comfortably on a couch, not unlike in a living room. And since there is no need for any driving, internet connectivity will play a big part of the on-board entertainment system, which responds to voice recognition and uses open-source software with downloadable applications for city tours and carpooling, of which the latter can be organised through social networking. Mike and Maaike does not see Atnmbl materialising until 2040 as much of the technology required are still in infant stages. Meanwhile, petrol heads should enjoy driving while they still can.
