2012 Range Rover Evoque Full Details Revealed

The Range Rover Evoque was first revealed back in July, but with precious little confirmed details or photos to satisfy our interest in this handsome CUV or Compact SUV, according to Land Rover, which believes that the Evoque can create a new market segment just like the Range Rover or the Freelander which pioneered their respective segments.

The Evoque will be offered in three equipment levels: the base Pure, the luxury Prestige and the sporty Dynamic. Pure offers 19" wheels, soft-touch materials, aluminium trim and an 11-speaker Meridian sound system. Prestige tacks on different 19" wheels and full leather trim, while Dynamic comes with larger 20" wheels, stand-out styling enhancements and sports seats.

The options' list includes adaptive headlights, a full-length panoramic roof, a dual-view 8-inch TFT screen (driver and passenger have the option to view two different projections on the same screen), a 17-speaker Meridian sound system and dual-zone climate control with pre-heating settings.

The Evoque's engine lineup consists of a 237 bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from Ford, as well as a 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit with 148 bhp or 187 bhp. The petrol engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel units can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. A hybrid powertrain is coming in the future.

Both two- and four-wheel-drive drivetrains are available, alongside the standard energy-saving Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) and the standard MagneRide suspension setup, whose adaptive magnetic dampers are supposed to provide the best ride-and-handling balance.

Set for unveiling in the metal at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September, the Evoque will go on sale across Europe in the middle of 2011, costing from £30K—similarly priced with the Freelander 2.2 TD4 HSE in the U.K.. With that Freelander variant selling for RM 271,388 in Malaysia, expect the Evoque around the same price level when it arrives in Malaysia.
