Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI & Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSI Arrive In Malaysia

Volkswagen Malaysia has launched two new models: the Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI for RM 155,888, which is RM 54K cheaper than the RM 209,888 Golf GTI; and the Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSI for RM 188,888, which is RM 55K cheaper than the RM 243,888 Scirocco 2.0 TSI.

Both models are powered by the same 1.4-litre TSI engine—which makes use of direct injection as well as a supercharger and a turbocharger to compensate for the small engine displacement—producing 158 bhp at 5800 rpm and 240 Nm at 1500–4500 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

The Golf 1.4 TSI charges to 100 km/h from rest in 8.0 seconds, before topping out at 220 km/h, while the Scirocco 1.4 TSI uses the exact same time to complete the century sprint although its top speed is 2 km/h slower. By comparison, the Golf GTI and Scirocco 2.0 TSI—both with the same 207 bhp, 280 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected engine—take 6.9 seconds for the century sprint and reach a maximum of 238 km/h.

Standard equipments for the Golf 1.4 TSI include 16" alloy wheels, 8-speaker radio/MP3/WMA audio system with single-disc CD-player, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, multi-function leather steering wheel with paddle shift control, rain sensor, braking controls (ABS & EBD with brake assistant), traction control, stability control and seven front/knee/side/curtain airbags.

A Light & Sound Package, listed as optional but included in the Golf's price tag, offers bi-xenon headlamps with dynamic range adjustment, dynamic cornering lights, headlamp cleaning system, front foglamps and USB/iPod audio connectivity. This package should be offered separately in the future.

Compared with its more expensive sibling, the new Scirocco variant makes do with 17" instead of 18" wheels, fabric instead of leather interior, and loses the electrically-adjustable driver's seat, integrated 6-disc CD-changer and multi-mode selectable adaptive chassis control (DCC).

Even so, it still comes equipped with bi-xenon headlamps with static cornering light and dynamic range adjustment, dual-zone automatic climate control, multi-function leather steering wheel with paddle shift control, rain sensor, braking controls (ABS & EBD with brake assistant), traction control, stability control and six front/side/curtain airbags.
