Volvo To Produce New 7-Series/S-Class Rivaling Flagship Model?

Geely is not wasting any time when it comes to their latest acquisition from Ford. Speaking at a press conference in London, Li Shufu, chairman and founder of Geely and now the chairman of Volvo, made it clear that Volvo should build a new flagship model to rival top-of-the-line luxury models such as BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. At the moment, Volvo's flagship model, the S80, competes in the mid-size luxury segment against the likes of BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
“We want to make more high-level cars that compete with the S-Class of Mercedes-Benz and the 7-Series of BMW. We need products to compete in that segment”, Li said, adding that luxury is something that Chinese customers want to “see through their eyes and touch with their hands”.
Li is convinced that Volvo has on hand the technological, research and engineering capabilities to rival the best in the luxury segment, whose higher selling prices could allow Volvo to improve its profit margins. The new Volvo chairman however concedes that nothing is confirmed for now, as Volvo's Board of Directors has yet to give the green light on this matter.
