2012 All-New Mercedes-Benz SLK Spy Photos

The 2012 all-new, third-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster has been spied while undergoing testing in the U.S.. With relatively little camouflage on the two-seater coupe, the spy photos clearly show the BMW Z4-rival retaining much of the proven formula seen on the current SLK, from its long bonnet, short rear proportion to its two-piece folding metal roof.
The grille, headlamps, LED lighting and tail lights are expected to draw inspiration from Mercedes-Benz's new flagship supercar, the SLS AMG. While not caught on camera, the all-new SLK's interior should adopt many styling cues from the SLS AMG's aviation-inspired cabin design.
Built on a shortened version of the C-Class' platform, the upcoming SLK would get two new petrol engines, including a 201-bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder for the SLK 200, and a 302-bhp 3.5-litre V6 for the SLK 350. A 201-bhp 2.4-litre diesel engine could be an option for the first time if rumours are to be believed.
You can expect to see the formal introduction of the 2012 all-new SLK at the Detroit Auto Show in January or Geneva Motor Show in March. Sales should begin by the third quarter of 2011. For now, enjoy the gallery of spy photos!
