Proton Waja Replacement To Arrive In Fourth Quarter Of 2010

The Proton Waja replacement is due for introduction in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Proton Managing Director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir. “All the preparations have been done”, said Syed Zainal Abidin. “We hope to launch it in the last quarter of this year”.
To be produced at Proton's plant in Shah Alam, where the Waja and Exora are built, the upcoming Waja replacement is rumoured to be a rebadged-version of the Mitsubishi Lancer, featuring a 1.8-litre engine instead of the Lancer's 2.0-litre unit. This is of course not new to Proton: the Proton Wira was little changed from the Lancer on which it was based.
Syed Zainal Abidin also mentioned that Proton would be showcasing an “all-new” model at the KL International Motor Show in December, although the Proton boss refused to confirm the identity of that car. We made an educated guess at the start of the year that the Waja replacement will be launched in 2010; since, after all, the Waja has been in production for a decade now, forced to soldier on no thanks to an overdue replacement.
