Audi R8 Spyder Gains Smaller V8 Engine, Heading For Paris Debut

The Audi R8 Spyder will be available with a 424 bhp, 430 Nm 4.2-litre FSI V8 powerplant, alongside the 518 bhp, 530 Nm 5.2-litre FSI V10 unit which has been the only engine option since the soft-top convertible's introduction at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or the R tronic sequential manual gearbox, the V8 engine propels the R8 Spyder from rest to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, reaching up to 298 km/h.

Like its V10 sibling, the V8 R8 Spyder is constructed from an aluminium space-frame with carbon composites, and features an automatic folding cloth roof and a lengthy list of standard equipments. Audi will be showcasing this new Spyder at the Paris Motor Show in September, before offering it in European markets by year's end.

For comparison sake, know that the V10 R8 coupe sells locally for RM 1,388,888 (OTR without insurance), so you will need real deep pockets if Euromobil, the official distributor for the Audi brand, decides to bring this car into Malaysia...
