Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel has won the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain, leading comfortably from start to finish to secure his second win this season since his first at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
His teammate Mark Webber crashed out of the race spectacularly, shunting into the back of Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus before flipping over as a result. Luckily, the Australian managed to emerge unscathed from the accident.
“It's about time I won from pole. We're back on track”, Vettel said, pleased at the end of his winless streak. “It's good to be back winning and on a circuit where we didn't expect to be that strong”.
“Most important of all today is the fact that Mark had quite a big shunt but he's fine”, Vettel said of his teammate. “It shows that the cars get safer and safer but still there is a lot of risk so it's good that he's OK”.
Vettel was joined on podium by McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton in second and Jenson Button in third, with Williams' Rubens Barrichello in fourth. Hamilton sits atop the drivers' championship with 127 points, reigning world champion Button in second with 121 points, and Vettel in third with 115 points.
