Honda S2000 Successor To Debut Before 2014, Says Report

Honda is reportedly working on a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car that fuses elements from the Honda Beat, produced between 1991 and 1996, and the Honda S2000 roadster, which ended production last year. According to Motor Trend who did some digging of their own, Honda has filed a Japanese patent for “an engine being fitted to a centre frame”—Japanese talk for a rear mid-engine layout.
Expected to be based on a modified version of the Honda Jazz's platform, the upcoming sports car could be offered as a hybrid, much like the Honda CR-Z, as Honda has, on more than one occasion, stated their intent to develop a performance hybrid car to complement the CR-Z. Employing a higher-capacity, more powerful petrol engine than the CR-Z's 1.5-litre, and gearing the electric motor towards performance than efficiency, could produce a sports car with enough pace to match the S2000's 0-100 km/h time of 6.0 seconds. Look for this car to debut before 2014...
