Land Rover's flagship model, the Range Rover, has been refreshed and updated for 2011. Scheduled to go on sale in the third quarter of 2010, the new Range Rover has received the mildest of facelift for its front end, but the real changes are focused on the drivetrain.
The current 3.6-litre V8 has been replaced by a 4.4-litre V8 turbodiesel, which is the only engine to be mated to the new eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Power output stands at 309 bhp at 3750 rpm and 700 Nm at 2000 rpm, representing 15 percent and 10 percent increments in power and torque respectively.
Despite the increased power and impressive performance—the century sprint takes a mere 7.5 seconds—fuel consumption has dropped by 18.5 percent and carbon dioxide emissions decreased by 14 percent; fuel economy is officially rated at 10.7 km/litre and emissions at 253 grams/km.
To match the performance, a Brembo braking system, with aluminium six-piston calipers plus 380 mm front and 365 mm rear ventilated discs, has been made standard. Paddle-shifters on the steering wheel and a CommandShift knob on the gear lever are new items too. The Terrain Response off-road system has been updated to include Gradient Acceleration Control and Hill Start Assist.
