The McLaren team is on a roll, winning a successive one-two finish in Canada after the last win in Turkey two weeks ago. Lewis Hamilton finished in first position —claiming the lead in the drivers' championship as a result—with Jenson Button in second position, ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in third and the Red Bull duo in fourth and fifth.
“It has been a tremendous weekend; it has been fantastic”, a delighted Hamilton exclaimed, not forgetting to pay tribute to his new teammate, who is only three points behind on the drivers' standings. “The contribution that Jenson has brought is the best I've ever witnessed from a teammate”.
On the Montreal circuit where Hamilton won his first grand prix three years ago, Hamilton said “This track is unique—you can never be too confident, because you really have to look after your tyres, and it's so hard to know how long you can make them last”.
Despite the consecutive wins, the 25-year-old Briton admits that the Red Bull cars may still be quicker. “In terms of pure pace, I still think the Red Bull car is still a little bit faster than ours”, Hamilton said. “But, as a whole, I think our package is now stronger”.
