The 2011 all-new, second-generation Citroen C4 has been revealed ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, before going on sale across Europe in early 2011. The C4 is a key model for Citroen as it is positioned in the mid-size hatchback segment against global best-sellers, Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.
The new C4 wears a styling clearly evolved from the current C4's, although Citroen appears to have toned down on the French quirkiness for a more regular hatchback shape. In addition to the large 408-litre boot, the interior is more stylish and more high-tech, while offering more personalisation options than the current C4.
Despite the “brand new” billing by Citroen, the new C4 sits on a platform derived from the current C4's. That said, the new C4 is 50 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 30 mm taller than its predecessor. Furthermore, Citroen promises that the use of laser welding and other advanced construction techniques have lowered the new C4's weight count.
Citroen has been tight-lipped on the future engine lineup, but revealed that a C4 hybrid powered by a 1.6-litre e-HDi diesel engine mated to a small electric motor will be introduced. Also equipped with low-rolling resistance tyres, engine stop-start technology and regenerative braking, the C4 hybrid produces carbon dioxide emissions as low as 109 grams/km.
