Lewis Hamilton has won his first victory of 2010 in the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, with Jenson Button completing the McLaren one-two. The Red Bull duo of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel was heading for the top positions once again, until Vettel's overtaking attempt on then-leader Webber resulted in a collision, handing the victory to the McLaren cars lurking close behind. While Webber managed to finish third, Vettel failed to even cross the finishing line.
“I don't know what happened, but they collided and we got past them and we had a bit of a battle—a fair one, I must say—before the end”, said Hamilton. “Me and Jenson were able to compete with them and push our hardest to be on their tails. To get our second one-two is fantastic”.
“We have been ragging their tails for some time. It's such an achievement for us, to really be able to take the battle to them”, Hamilton added. “You can see how close it is between the four of us. It's down to momentum, and we will do the best we can to win both championships”.
The current world champion Button was very pleased with his second position and the McLaren cars' pace. “The pace of our car was very good and it was great to be battling with the Red Bulls; so many times we have seen them disappear into the distance”, said Button. “A few weeks ago you could say we might not be able to challenge the Red Bulls, so we have to say thanks to the team”.
Mercedes drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, took fourth and fifth some distance behind. Renault's Robert Kubica was placed sixth, with Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, both from Ferrari, taking seventh and eighth, respectively.
