Mark Webber has scored his second consecutive victory, dominating the Monaco Grand Prix from his starting pole position to finish despite four safety car periods. Completing the Red Bull dominance is Sebastian Vettel, who started from third but managed to take second position after speeding past Renault's Robert Kubica almost immediately at the start.
Webber described his Monaco adventure as one of the greatest day of his life. “It's a special day, the greatest day of my life I suppose”, he said. “To win here was very special, it started yesterday with qualifying when it went well, but here it is such a test for two hours”.
“A one-two finish for the team here is such a feather in their cap, it's incredible”, Webber said of the Red Bull one-two result. “We are optimistic for the future and we got the maximum we could do today, and we need to make that happen as often as possible”.
Webber and Vettel are both at the top of the driver's championship with 78 points, although Webber's record of winning two races ranks him ahead of Vettel, who has one victory this season. Kubica secured the final third podium position, with Ferrari's Felipe Massa in fourth, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in fifth and Massa's teammate Fernando Alonso rounding up the top six.
