Chery Eastar Now Available With 2.0-litre Engine

Chery Eastar has been made available with a 2.0-litre ACTECO engine, which replaces the discontinued 2.4-litre 4G64 engine from Mitsubishi. With the new engine mated to an unchanged four-speed automatic gearbox, the Eastar 2.0 sells for RM 79,988 on-the-road with insurance.

Producing 134 bhp at 5750 rpm and 180 Nm at 4400 rpm, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC engine comes from the ACTECO engine range which serves in over 1.9 million Chery vehicles globally. If that does not assure your worries of unreliability, Chery Alado Automobile Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of the Chery brand in Malaysia, is offering a 5-year/200,000 km warranty for the engine, while the rest of the car gets a 3-year/100,000 km warranty.

Eastar's key assets remain its ample space and comprehensive equipment list. It provides the interior room of full-size MPVs at a price point that can only buy mid-size MPVs such as Naza Citra; For the space and price, Eastar's closest rival would be the Proton Exora.

Standard equipments include all-round power windows, automatic climate control, MP3/USB audio system with steering wheel mounted audio controls, dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Leather seats are optional at RM 2000.
