Red Bull has finally lived up to promise at the Malaysian GP, as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber took the first-second placing at the Sepang circuit. Third on the grid, Vettel made an excellent start, overtaking his Australian teammate, who started in pole position, in the first corner, and leading from start to finish with relative ease.
“It was a great race for us and a great result for the team after the last two races when we just didn't get the results we wanted”, Vettel said. “It is a long season but this is the best result we could get and on top of that, Mark getting second place is a big plus for the team and a lot of points”.
Webber credited his German teammate for the victory: “It was a good fight today but he deserved the victory”, he said. “First and second is sensational. It has been a tough few races where clearly we didn't finish where we should, so coming to the weekend, you will take this kind of result”.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) claimed third place, Robert Kubica (Renault) took fourth and Adrian Sutil (Force India) finished fifth. The following three positions went to Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), Felipe Massa (Ferrari) and Jenson Button (McLaren), all of whom started way behind on the grid no thanks to their qualifying slip-ups. Michael Schumacher once again had a disappointing day, retiring early when his Mercedes' left rear wheel came loose.
