Volvo XC30 & Five-door C30 Confirmed For Production

Volvo has revealed that a new crossover, XC30, is due for production within a couple of years. This information comes from Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo's president for overseas corporate strategy, who spoke to CarsGuide regarding Volvo's future plans. To be based on C30, XC30 will be the smallest crossover SUV in the XC series, which currently consists of XC60, XC70 and XC90, and will likely take after XC60 in terms of styling.

Kerssemakers also added that there is little chance of Volvo producing models positioned below C30, although a five-door C30 is already in the pipelines. The production of electric vehicles, such as the full-electric C30, is “an absolutely integrated philosophy with Volvo”, he said.

XC30 is believed to be ready for launch sometime in 2012, providing Volvo with a direct rival against the likes of BMW X1 and the widely-rumoured Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz BLK.
