Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the F800 Style, a concept car that showcases the German automaker's latest design language and technology while previewing the entry-level five-seat, four-door coupe positioned below the CLS. Like the Rising Car concept previously unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, the F800 Style also hints at the next- generation CLS.
Using Mercedes-Benz's new, flexible MFA platform, the F800 Style can accommodate either a plug-in hybrid system or fuel cell system. The hybrid system consists of a 300-bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine mated to a seven- speed automatic gearbox, and a 109-bhp electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries; the battery pack can be charged by common household power sockets.
0-100 km/h takes 4.8 seconds, and the top speed stands at 250 km/h. Fuel economy is 34.3 km/litre and carbon dioxide emissions are low at 68 grams/km. On electric power alone, the F800 Style can travel for 30 km at a top speed of 120 km/h.
As part of the second stage of a customer lease programme started with the B-Class Fuel Cell, the F800 Style features a hydrogen fuel cell that charges a 136-bhp electric motor. 0-100 km/h takes 11.0 seconds, and the top speed stands at 180 km/h, with a usable range at 600 km.
The F800 Style will be revealed in the flesh at the Geneva Motor Show early next month, so stay tuned for live photos then. For the time being, enjoy the official photos!
