All-New Toyota Passo (Perodua Myvi) Launched In Japan

The second-generation Toyota Passo has been launched in Japan. The first-generation Passo is the car that Daihatsu Boon and Perodua Myvi are largely based on, so the all-new Passo gives a good idea of the new Myvi to come.

Toyota is promising a more user-friendly and better thought-out package with the new car, and is, for the first time, offering the Passo+Hana, a more stylish, higher-end variant of the Passo that comes with a different exterior and interior.

Two engines are available: the 1KR-FE 1.0-litre that produces 68 bhp at 6000 rpm and 92 Nm at 3600 rpm; and the 1NR-FE 1.3-litre with dual variable valve timing that produces 94 bhp at 6000 rpm and 121 Nm at 4000 rpm. Both engines are paired to a CVT transmission, while four-wheel drive is an option.

Measuring 3640 mm in length, 1665 mm in width, and 1535 mm in height, the Passo is designed to better utilise the available space, providing ample room for five, better all-round visibility, more convenient storage compartments and more useful seating arrangement among others.

Other features include a column-mounted shifter, reverse-linked front-passenger side mirror, rearview monitor, Smart Entry & Start system, automatic air-conditioning and Eco Driving Indicator. Safety equipments wise, front, side and curtain airbags are standard, and so are Active Headrests. Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control systems are optional.
