Lotus Racing Team Launches The Cosworth T127

Lotus Racing Team has launched its 2010 challenger, codenamed the Lotus Cosworth T127, at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London. In front of 500 spectators, team principal Tony Fernandes and chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne took the wraps off the new car, alongside the three drivers Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen and Fairuz Fauzy.

Cloaked in the green and yellow livery, the new Lotus wears the familiar colours used by the legendary car of the 1950s and 1960s. The Cosworth T127 is driven on Bridgestone tyres by a Cosworth V8 engine and X-Trac gearbox, and has its bodywork, chassis and suspension made of carbon fibre.

“Words cannot express how I feel today”, said Fernandes, excited that the Lotus name is on the brink of re-entering F1 since 1994. “It is an amazing job to get an F1 licence, have five people in Hingham and turn up today with this car”.

“We know we have a huge burden on our shoulders, standing on the shoulders of giants—Clark, Moss, Hill, and Mansell. We know we have a tremendous journey in front of us, we are honoured and cherish to be a part of history”, he added. “We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts and we will do our best to return Lotus to its glory days”.

The Cosworth T127 was given a run at the Silverstone circuit earlier this week and will head for further testing at the Jerez circuit next week, before making its race debut in Bahrain on March 14.
