Toyota Rejects Award For The Prius

Perhaps it is the fear of looking bad in the eye of the public, or perhaps it is down to a genuine sense of regret, but Toyota has rejected an energy efficiency and ecological quality award handed out by the Japanese Government's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. That award was of course for Toyota Prius, the hybrid vehicle embroiled in Toyota's latest recall due to a brake issue.

“We declined to accept the award, because we thought it is not appropriate”, said a Toyota spokesman, citing the recent recalls as the reason to reject the award, which was also given to Mitsubishi Electric and Fuji Xerox.

Needless to say, Toyota's move is crucial in convincing the worldwide public and Japanese media that the once-infallible Japanese corporate icon is indeed sorry for the quality lapses resulting in 8.5 million vehicles recalled since last year, of which 8.1 million were due to the now infamous floor mat and sticking accelerator pedal issues.
