Toyota has finally decided to recall almost half a million of the Prius and two other hybrid cars over the braking issue. And UMW Toyota Motor is following suit, announcing that there will be a special service campaign from February 12, aimed at fixing the problem for over 60 units of the latest Prius in Malaysia.
Globally, a total of 437,000 units of the latest Toyota Prius, Prius PHV (plug-in hybrid), Sai, and Lexus HS 250h are affected by the recall. 155,000 of them are in the U.S., 223,000 in Japan, 53,000 in Europe and 5,000 in other parts of the world.
Owners of the latest Prius have complained that they would lose braking function momentarily while driving over slippery or uneven surfaces. However, Toyota says that a software update for the program controlling the anti-lock braking system (ABS) will solve the problem. UMW Toyota Motor also assures that their technicians are fully trained and equipped to carry out the corrective measures.
