This is the all-new Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet, the mid-size convertible that will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March, before going on sale in Europe from June. What's new? Among others, a novel folding roof, new drivetrains, a stiffer chassis and a new electric power steering system.
The highlight of the car is a novel two-piece folding glass roof that is the largest of its kind by class standards. Renault claims that the boot aperture is class-leading, too. Pressing a button lowers the roof automatically in a quick 21 seconds. However, the boot space is less impressive at 417 litres, becoming 211 litres with the roof down.
The engine range includes 108-bhp, 128-bhp, 158-bhp diesel engines and 128-bhp, 138-bhp petrol units. All models are front-wheel drive and come equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, except for the 138-bhp petrol unit which is only available with a new CVT gearbox. The 108-bhp diesel unit can be optionally paired to Renault's new six-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) semi-automatic gearbox.
Prices have yet to be released, but expect Renault to price the all-new Megane CC against Peugeot's 308CC, its main rival. Stay tuned for more details at the Geneva Motor Show, where the Renault Wind is also expected to debut.
