Jaguar Creates All-Electric XJ As Part Of Zero-Emissions Future

Jaguar has created an all-electric Jaguar XJ in accordance with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)'s vision for the future, which involves the major cities in the world introducing zero-emissions, zero-pollution zones and banning vehicles including hybrids with emissions.
With financial assistance from the British government's Technology Strategy Board, JLR is jointly developing the car with Lotus, the company contracted to produce the 47-bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine designed to recharge the lithium ion battery pack. The batteries will, in turn, power the 194-bhp, 400-Nm electric motor.
The electric drivetrain is said to offer a top speed of 180 km/h, a range of 966 km, a fuel economy of 20.2 km/litre, and carbon dioxide emissions below 120 grams/km.
All the green technology is likely to enhance the driving pleasure, too, thanks to “the bulk that's removed from the car when you strip out the conventional drivetrain”.
With both Jaguar and Land Rover housed under JLR, the all-electric XJ's final drivetrain and platform should be shared with future Land Rovers as well.
