Honda Malaysia Recalls 16,025 Jazz & City Models

Honda Malaysia has announced an official recall for 16,025 units of the first-generation Jazz and the second-generation City models, following three incidents (two in the US and one in South Africa) in which the power window master switch caught fire when exposed to large amounts of water—a real possibility in tropical, rainy Malaysia if the window is left open.
3090 units of the 2003 Jazz 1.4 i-DSI fully imported from Japan are affected by the recall, while 12,935 units of the 2008 City, of which 7713 units are V-TEC models and 5222 units are i-DSI models.
However, Honda Malaysia is quick to point out that there have been no reported incidents of faults in Malaysia, and that the current batch of Jazz and City models are unaffected by such quality issues.
Globally, 646,000 Jazz units are affected, although for now recalls have only been issued to the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, South Africa and of course Malaysia. Recalls of such scale are a PR (Public Relations) nightmare, but perhaps Honda can seek consolation from the fact that Toyota is doing much worse, recalling 7.6 million cars in the US alone.
