All-New Mazda5 To Make Geneva Motor Show Debut

The all-new Mazda5 will make its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2, before going on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2010. Known as Mazda Premacy in Japan, Mazda5 will be the first Mazda model to adopt the company's Nagare design language, which draws inspiration from the flows found in nature. To fulfil its MPV duties, the interior will come with dual sliding rear doors and multiple seat arrangements.
In line with global go-green trends, Mazda's Zoom-Zoom philosophy has been slightly altered to Sustainable Zoom-Zoom. Mazda5's 2.0-litre petrol engine, now equipped with direct injection and i-stop start-stop technology, comes with fuel economy improved by almost 15 percent. The 2.0-litre, along with a 1.8-litre, is paired to a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission is expected later on.
Mazda promises an MPV that “responds precisely to the driver's commands” while providing a “sportier and smoother ride”. We would normally call the bluff if other automakers describe their MPVs as such, but if the current Mazda5 is any indication, Mazda could well be telling the truth. More details will be revealed at the auto show.
