Detroit Auto Show: Audi e-tron Detroit Concept Car Previews Upcoming R4

This is Audi's e-tron Detroit Concept car, a close relative of the e-tron concept first showcased at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. However, the Detroit e-tron is smaller and lighter, and uses two electric motors instead of four to drive its rear axle, bringing about a 40/60 front/rear weight distribution favoured by Audi. There is 204 hp and 2650 Nm to play with, which allows the Detroit e-tron to accelerate from rest to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

More importantly, the Detroit e-tron previews Audi's upcoming mid-engine sports coupe known as R4, which could head for production as soon as 2012. R4 is rumoured to share a platform with the next-generation Porsche Boxster and Cayman, and will most likely be fitted with existing engines used by the current Audi TT.
