Detroit Auto Show: Volkswagen New Compact Coupe Concept

Volkswagen has made public the New Compact Coupe (NCC) concept at the Detroit Auto Show. A coupe variant of the next-generation Jetta, NCC is only concept in name, as it appears almost production-ready outside and inside. To justify the price premium over the upcoming Jetta, NCC will be differentiated in terms of the front end design, widened tracks and frameless doors.
In line with current go-green trends, NCC is powered by a parallel hybrid system that allows electric-only propulsion for a short distance. The 27 bhp and 140 Nm contributed by the electric motor, coupled with the 148 bhp and 240 Nm from the 1.4-litre twincharger engine, combine for an overall output of 175 bhp and 380 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission. The latest efficiency-enhancing technologies such as automatic stop-start and brake-energy recuperation are also expected.
Volkswagen says NCC can complete 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, before settling at the top speed of 225 km/h. Official fuel economy stands at 23.8 km/litre, with carbon dioxide emissions at just 98 grams/km.
While still a concept unconfirmed for production, NCC, by all estimates, should hit the roads eventually, slotting just below Passat CC.
