Tata Nano, one of the cheapest cars in the world, has become one of the most expensive out there. At the New Delhi Auto Show, DC Design, a Mumbai-based firm, has introduced a bespoke Tata Nano that will cost 10 million rupee (not rupiah!), which exchanges into 738,332 ringgit (excluding all the crippling duties).
The firm plans to carry out a complete overhaul of the regular Tata Nano, replacing the small wheels and unrefined interior plastic bits with 20-inch wheels and quality fittings. Only the basic chassis will remain, as the body panels, suspension, brakes and engine will be all-new.
Founder of DC Design, Dilip Chhabria expects Bollywood stars and “people who have a passion for cars” to be interested in the bespoke Tata Nano, which remains in the prototype stage. This extremely pricey compact hatchback promises to be exclusive, too, as DC Design plans to sell between two and five units per year.
However you look at it, there is precious little car, metal, quality, engineering and prestige for the money. So, to DC Design, good luck selling even one...
