Two New Models for Proton and Perodua Between 2013 and 2014
Bosch will be supplying Proton and Perodua with new headlamps for their respective new models between 2013 and 2014. This was revealed by Martin Hayes, president of Bosch South East Asia and managing director for Malaysia and Singapore during a presentation of the company's 2012 financial results at the company's head office in Petaling Jaya this morning.
Bosch did not reveal much about the two new models but adds that the company has extensive working relationship with local manufacturers. The Proton Preve has been a major contributor to Bosch's revenue in the automotive original equipment segment.
In the Preve, Bosch supplies electronic modules for active safety systems like anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control as well as infotainment, engine cooling fan and gasoline fuel system components.
The new model referred to here is unlikely to be the upcoming 2013 Proton Preve hatchback as that is a derivative model and will adopt the same headlamps as the Preve sedan.
Instead, the new model is likely to be a Perodua Myvi class small hatchback.
As for speculations of a Proton Perdana replacement model, we don't take the rumours very seriously. In the past, Proton has signed multiple memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nissan, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen. The Nissan Fuga, Mitsubishi 380 and even a Volkswagen Passat have been rumoured to form the basis for the next generation Proton Perdana but as we all know today, these are just unsubstantiated rumours. The last MoU signed between Proton and a foreign car maker was in October 2012, with Honda. There have been no updates since. MoUs have a limited term period and are more of a statement of intent rather than a legally binding document.
As for Perodua, the company is expected to introduce an all new Viva soon, possibly in 2014 while the Alza is close to 3-years old now and is due for a mid-lifecycle facelift.
