Want The Aston Martin Cygnet City Car? Get A ‘Proper’ Aston Martin Supercar First

The automotive world cringed in disbelief when rumours turned to reality, as Aston Martin confirmed the production of Cygnet, a city car based on Toyota iQ. While iQ may have received the second highest number of votes at the 2010 European Car of the Year award, it is ultimately a Toyota, and slapping an Aston Martin badge anywhere on it deservedly incurs the wrath of Aston Martin purists.
But a report from New York Times has cleared the air on this issue somewhat. Accordingly, only owners of “proper” V8 and V12-powered Aston Martin sports cars will be eligible to purchase Cygnet, of which only 2000 units are planned for production. Rather than an Aston Martin city car, think of Cygnet as the ultimate Aston Martin accessory—that is going by company CEO Ulrich Bez's logic, who compared the car “to an exclusive tender for a luxury yacht”.
Indeed, at an estimated £20,000 (RM 108,918), Cygnet will certainly be one of the most expensive accessory when it arrives next year.
