Lexus Steals the Show With Custom-Made Dimpled LS 460L

Before the recession hit, the U.S. Open, an annual open golf tournament hosted in the United States, is dominated by automaker Buick and their ambassador Tiger Woods. But being a brand under the near-insolvent General Motors, Buick no longer sponsors Tiger Woods and has far reduced exposure at the Open.
Enters Lexus. The Japanese luxury automaker decided to sponsor the U.S. Open, and to ensure remembrance, they commissioned the production of a LS 460L with a twist—the exterior of the car is dimpled just like a golf ball. For this project, Lexus found Brad Smith, who makes golf ball-shaped mailboxes for a living. Together, he and his friend Rick Davis then carried out the entire project in Davis' home garage.
The dimples on a golf ball supposedly enables you to drive the ball further, faster and with more accuracy. We do not suppose the same applies for a car? Lexus might have stumbled onto an aerodynamics break-through for all we know.
