Ford Mondeo Tested And Reviewed

Ford Mondeo, which Auto Express once described as “Ford’s finest ever car” was launched in Malaysia at the start of the month, and now we have sampled it. So is it really Ford's finest ever? Well, in terms of Ford's model line up for the Malaysian market thus far, we will have to agree. But as brilliant as Mondeo is with its class-leading qualities and fine overall package, its drivetrain lets down the rest of the car. A turbodiesel drivetrain would be a totally different proposition, however.
And then there is the issue of pricing: Being a CBU import from Genk, Belgium, Mondeo's RM 178,888 (on-the-road with insurance) price tag is higher than comparable 2.4-litre Honda Accord and Toyota Camry models'. That, along with Ford's relative lack of brand presence in Malaysia, means Mondeo will find it hard to sell in large numbers. Furthermore, while it is a credible alternative to compact luxury cars like Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the lack of a premium badge and the unadventurous styling mean those that can afford to would stick to the German Big Three.
