Proton Exora hybrids do exist after all—and some of them would be coming to Malaysia by end December or early next year, according to Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Tahir, who made known the news at the Thailand International Motor Expo, where Exora is launched for the Thai market.
Developed in collaboration with Proton subsidiary Lotus and a number of component manufacturers, the Exora hybrids are currently being tested in the UK, before making their way here this year or next for the second stage, which involves the use of hybrid cars as government fleet vehicles, especially in Putrajaya.
“This can be expanded to fleet for private sectors like Pos Malaysia, DHL or others who are using big number of vehicles for their business”, Syed Zainal said, adding that Proton intends to start mass producing hybrid cars by 2011.
In addition to hybrids, Proton has also been working on electric cars, experimenting on models like Saga, Persona and Exora since early this year, as part of Proton's answer to the government's calls for greener vehicle technologies.
