In another step closer to F1 racing, Lotus F1 cars has been designated No. 18 and 19 for next season. The best part? The three other new entrants are higher-numbered and hence lower-ranked: Campos Meta 1 with No. 20 and 21; US F1 Racing with No. 22 and 23; and Virgin Racing with No. 24 and 25. But of course, the so-believed “unlucky” No. 13 is not used for any car.
“We have received confirmation from the FIA that we will be No. 18 and 19. This makes us the highest ranked among the new teams”, Lotus F1 CEO Riad Asmat said, adding that he hopes to finalise the driver’s line-up by next week. “We will name two drivers and a reserve. Negotiations are still going on”.
According to the latest reports, Fairuz Fauzy, the only Malaysian in the running for one of the hot seats, will most likely be chosen as the reserve driver, leaving Jarno Trulli, Kamui Kobayashi, Takuma Sato and Jacques Villenueve vying for the two main seats.
