Hybrid MR2 Speculated And Rendered By Japanese Mag

Rumors have been floating around the automotivesphere for months about Toyota rekindling the prospects of introducing a new, sporty lightweight coupe to rival Honda's recently announced CR-Z hybrid sports coupe. No official words or any spy shots yet but a Japanese leading car magazine is claiming that Toyota will resurrect the MR2 as a hybrid model to rival Honda's CR-Z coupe which is expected to reach the showrooms next year.

The rendering by the Japanese magazine suggests that the rumored hybrid will most probably feature a mid-engine and rear-wheel drive format as indicated by the air-inlets at the rear of the vehicle. The inception of such a model is highly plausible judging by Toyota's new direction, having already introduced the FT-86, to have a smaller and lighter hybrid to be slotted below the FT-86.
