Mercedes-Benz Premieres New CLA-Class in Thailand
The 2013 all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has finally entered the ASEAN market. Making its Thailand debut at the Central World Square, the unveiling of the new CLA-Class premieres a new four-door sports coupe segment that follows the styling of the CLS. Implementing a new design direction, the sporty avant-garde look of the new CLA aims to appeal to the younger generation, especially in the ASEAN region.
Dr. Alexander Paufler, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited, said “The new CLA-Class is significant step in automobile design that signifies differentiation in our design philosophy.”
Paufler added “We aim to reach new target groups, especially young customers including those who never intended driving a Mercedes. It is convinced that the CLA could well become the hottest mid-size coupé to be seen in Thailand automotive industry.”
The Benchmark Performance
Under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 AMG Sport is a variant of the four-cylinder in-line turbo engine with a 1,991cc displacement, capable of delivering 211HP with a maximum torque figure of 350Nm. The potent engine is paired with the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission, delivering a powerful performance of 0-100km/h time in 6.7 seconds and a recorded top speed of 240km/h.
In spite of the remarkable power, the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-class has the best fuel consumption in its class, returning 6.1 l/100 km, thanks to the new CLA aerodynamic that optimises its Coefficient of Drag value (Cd) to 0.22.
A number of measures have been taken in providing a characteristic airflow to the new Mercedes-Benz CLA, which includes lowering the A-pillar shoulder, optimising exterior mirrors and redesigning wheel trims to reduce the aerodynamic drag. Setting a new yardstick for Mercedes-Benz model, the new CLA-class features extensive underbody panelling and an aerodynamically enhanced rear diffuser for better underbody airflow.
Mercedes-Benz AMG Design
Measuring at 4,630mm in length, 1,777mm wide and 1,432 mm in height, the new Mercedes-Benz CLA features Concept Style Coupe into its production design. Diamond radiator grilles with the brand’s logo, large panoramic sliding sunroof and bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime lights are just a few of the features that provide a sportier and aggressive look to the new CLA. The four-door sports coupe also wears a front and rear apron, has a two-pipe exhaust system with rectangular tailpipes, perforated front brake discs and the 18-inch wheels, courtesy of the AMG sports package kit.
Complementing the exterior, the cabin of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-class features a sporty two-tube instrument cluster with jet-like air vents on its dashboard. Adding the sporty properties to the new CLA are the leather seats and steering wheels with unique red stitching.
