Rolls-Royce is currently working on a brand new model termed Ghost, positioned as a smaller and less expensive alternative to the flagship Phantom. Plans for both Coupe and Drophead convertible versions of Ghost are also in place for the longer term future.
According to various sources, Ghost will follow closely to the 2009 Rolls-Royce 200EX concept car. Allowing for effortless wafting will be a 500 bhp 6.6-litre turbocharged V12 engine mated to a eight-speed automatic gearbox. Another highlight: a new active air suspension system said to be able to detect the smallest of changes using multiple sensors around the car. The system is sensitive enough to sense a rear passenger moving from one side of the car to the other, and compensate accordingly.
Scheduled for launch in early 2010, Ghost is expected to significantly undercut Phantom, pitting it squarely against certain Bentley, BMW and Mercedes-Benz models.
