Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Spawning Lower-end Model To Rival Porsche 911?

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been discussed aplenty on the automotive scene, and so it is hardly surprising that rumours are circulating again. Following talks of a Black Series SLS AMG, there is now a rumoured lower-end derivative of the SLS AMG, designed to rival Porsche 911. The 2010 SLS AMG is relatively expensive and powerful, and so will be positioned against the likes of 911 GT2.
According to a Mercedes-Benz insider, such a smaller, lighter, less powerful and cheaper model could materialise in five years' time, although nothing concrete is currently on the table. If the rumoured car does come along, it could be powered by a 5.8-litre engine derived from the familiar 6.3-litre V8 AMG, with a power output in the 350-500 horsepower range.
