Kimi Raikkonen Set To Earn More Next Season Without Racing?

This does not sound right, but it is what reports are saying: Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 F1 World Champion currently contracted to Ferrari, would earn 17 million euros if he sits the next season out, but would get 15 million euros if he chooses to race for McLaren. This situation boils down to the contract terms between Raikkonen and Ferrari, which reportedly say that a compensation of 17 million euros is due if Ferrari wants to terminate the contract without finding Raikkonen a suitable team.
If Ferrari manages to offload Raikkonen to another team, most likely McLaren as rumours go, the compensation is much less at 5 million euros. McLaren is reportedly offering 5 million euros, with sponsor Santander chipping in another 5 million euros, making a total of 15 million euros. With Fernando Alonso signing on for Ferrari, Raikkonen will have to make room somehow—safe in the knowledge that either decision will be hugely lucrative.
