New Toyota GT86 Racer Primed for Action

Powered by a 2.0-litre direct injection four-cylinder ‘Boxer’, the new Toyota GT86 GT4 racer is set to make its track debut at a UK circuit very soon.

The highly-acclaimed Toyota GT 86 is ahead of its production schedule, and will be ready for a series of GT4 pre-season test sessions.

The Toyota GT86 will feature a Nicholson McLaren engine, and will be capable of up to 400hp, said Gary Blackham, a director of GPRM, the motorsport engineering company.

Venues for the Toyota GT86 to be featured include the Avon Tyre British GT Championship and various other growing GT4 series’ around Europe.

GPRM’s Toyota GT86 is a cost-efficient entry-level endurance car. The company embarked on the GT4 project immediately after the Britcar24 last September, where the new Toyota sports car made a successful UK race debut. Although not a works effort, the GT4 project has the blessing of Toyota GB, which is providing technical support.

As much as the next guy, I love a good Lambo or Prancing Horse; but the minimalist lightweights are what really get me.
