2013 New Renault Megane RS 265 Cup Launched in Malaysia at RM241K
In 2010, the Renault Megane RS lapped the Sepang International Circuit in 2m 43s. Now, there’s a much quicker version – two seconds quicker around Sepang: the new Renault Megane RS 265 Cup.
Having been the fastest front-wheel drive car ever around the ‘Nordschleife', the new 2013 Renault Megane RS 265 Cup is more powerful, more efficient, and much quicker around a corner.
Why all this speed? The Megane RS 265 Cup has an increase of 15hp and 20Nm of torque from its predecessor (265hp and 360Nm); all this from the RS’ 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.
Yes, with 0-100km/h taking six seconds, you might argue that it isn’t the quickest of hot hatches; but you can count on it being a lot more fun to drive very quickly; and more rewarding, for all its track credentials.
Four-pot Brembo calipers and 340mm-diameter ventilated discs at the front do the job of stopping you ask fast as you accelerate too.
But what’s it like to own and use every day?
Enough about power; you know by now anything that spells ‘Megane’, ‘RS’, and ‘Cup’ is going to be a quick car on the track. But the Renault Megane RS 265 Cup is sold as a car for you to use on the road. So what’s that like?
Well, for driving to work every day in, the Megane RS 265 Cup will look very out of place; but only to people aged 50 and above, or have lost all touch with their boyhood fantasies. This car looks menacingly fantastic.
The press release will tell you things like it’s got F1-style front blades, darkened headlight masks, 18-inch black “Tibor” allow wheels and that these all come as standard. In short, we’d like to tell you that it all just looks superbly menacing.
Even the interior design upholds it menacing form. Black lacquer finish center console and air vent surrounds, carbon-effect finish to the door panel inserts, and of course, Recaro bucket seats.
But what if this just isn’t sporty enough?
On top of being a mental for thinking as such, Renault have an option for you: the limited-edition Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB7 model.
Styled with Etoile Black body colour and the contrasting use of Renault Sports’ Sirius Yellow bits here and there, this is one road cum track car that’ll satisfy all boyhood fantasies for a good looking racer.
Garnished with a Red Bull Racing badge here and there, the Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB7 maintains the exclusive sporty credentials inside with leather Recaro seats, a special edition gear knob, and a limited edition numbered plaque.
But where will I get to enjoy my Megane RS 265 Cup?
On a track day is where. As part of the Renault Sport Ownership Experience, six track days at the Sepang International Circuit (same as last year) have been allocated for you to fully put your Renault Megane RS 265 Cup to its limits.
Renault Sport owners are given access to Renault Sport F1 events for an up, close and personal meet and greet sessions with F1 drivers from various Renault Sport partnered teams. This is a by-invitation event especially for Renault Sport owners.
